The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Feud was established by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin as a foundation to benefit the Hispanic community that has been exposed to negative impacts from the result of racial activity and civil rights abuse in Arizona.

Their arrest in 2007 resulted in the $3.75 million settlement used to establish the fund and educate migrants on civil rights after the two journalists were taken away from their homes in the middle of the night and jailed after exposing the act done by the grand jury proceedings that sought for notes taken by reporters to cover the accused Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Joe Arpaio was behind the arrest of numerous people who he claimed was living illegally in the United States. However, after studying the statistics of his arrests, most of the people targeted by the Sheriff was from the Hispanic Community, who were in fact innocent and legal migrant citizens living in the country.

Lacey and Larkin sued the county, eventually prevailing in the United States Court of Appeals for the ninth circuit, after discovering that the grand jury subpoenas wanted insight on the citizens who were reading news online from the New Times regarding the lawman.

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Feud was launched as a foundation to safeguard the interest of minorities that are advocating for migrant, civil and human rights, as well as Freedom of Speech. The incident has created a storm within the Hispanic Community which gave rise to a vast number of people coming forward in protest of the harsh realities received by the minority grounds. The fund continues to promote civic participation across Arizona, including the Mexican border as well. The result of the establishment showed the number of illegal border crossings from the within the Mexican Border has dropped by nearly 40 percent, thus decreasing further inhumane activities that takes place in the border.

According to Lacey and Larkin, to preserve the civil, human, and migrant rights for anyone visiting or living in in the United States, an advocacy group that can stand up against opposition is needed in a belief that all humans deserve to have someone stand up and declare that they have equal rights like everyone else.

With their leadership, the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund has delved into support groups in hopes to address the ongoing issues through freedom of speech.
