The Chainsmokers Set New Tone With “Sick Boy”

After a nine-month hiatus New York-based EDM duo the Chainsmokers has released their first single of 2018. The DJ combo of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart have been enjoying mainstream success since 2015, and although they are still fairly new they have garnered quite a following. Although they could keep pumping out their unique blend of EDM with a dash of Top 40 pop, the duo has opted to take another course. Their new single, “Sick Boy” is the first leg of that journey.

The Chainsmokers have never been your typical EDM group. For one thing since the release of “Closer” Andrew Taggart has been providing lead vocals. This is slightly unheard of in EDM circles as most DJ’s hire actual vocalists to provide vocals. Pall and Taggart also have a hand in writing their music. According to Taggart the group did not want to fall into the remix pit, where every album is an eclectic collection of dance beats. The Chainsmokers wanted to have songs that connected, that told a story over the breadth of a wide body of work. So far their songs have mirrored their generation, focus on topics that everyone within that generation can relate to. “Sick Boy” is glimpse at a society that is not so rose colored. “Sick Boy” delves a little deeper into the darkside.

“Sick Boy” is the first part of a chapter for Pall and Taggart. The song give an unflattering look at social media, and the responsibility it bears for their generation’s loss of identity. It is also a blazing look at the effects of 24-hour fame, as it focuses on the pressure overexposure on a social platform effects a person. According to Pall the song mirrors the current tone of society, and the next few songs will follow suit. The Chainsmokers want to establish themselves as artists, and they know what they want to say. Time will tell if the world around them wants to listen. One this is for sure, their current fan base is already behind them.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin

Michael and Jim have been working hard to save the migrants from abuse. Their main focus is with the migrants who are coming into the United States without the proper documents because they are the main ones that are being targeted by human traffickers.

They are also helping out migrants with complete papers, to an extent. Being one of the most popular migrants’ rights activists in the country today, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have been experiencing constant criticism from their actions, especially those who believe that the migrants should be kept out of the borders of the United States.

Joe Arpaio could be considered as one of their top critics, and the former Maricopa County sheriff has been calling them out because of their continuous assistance to the undocumented migrants.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have conflicted with Joe Arpaio ever since he was elected as the county sheriff in 1992, and he would always blatantly expressed his will to see the two activists arrested for their actions.

For Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, Joe Arpaio is the epitome of an individual who has no compassion for his fellow human being. There are stories about his cruelty to the migrants, but he would always shrug off the accusations saying that those are not true. However, for his victims, the trauma that he inflicted would always resurface once they meet him face to face.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have also experienced the cruelty of Joe Arpaio. They were arrested by his men one night in 2007, because of the accusations that they posted confidential information about his case online, along with his private information. The case was brought to the court, but because of insufficient and weak evidence that was presented by the side of Joe Arpaio, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were soon released.

A counter lawsuit was filed by the two migrants’ rights activists, as suggested by their lawyer, and they won. The two were awarded by the Maricopa County a staggering amount of $3.75 in damages, and they used this money to establish the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund.

After his case was dismissed, Joe Arpaio would still be involved in racial profiling and racial discrimination against the migrant population in Phoenix. As more and more people are experiencing his unruly behavior, several groups have filed complaints with the county attorney’s office, demanding for actions against the continuous abuse by Joe Arpaio. They sent him a warning letter that he would ignore, and when the county attorney’s office became fed up because of his continued racial profiling and discrimination, they issued a warrant of arrest against him in the grounds of contempt. Joe Arpaio was sent to jail, and the migrant population in the United States, along with Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, celebrated as he would now have to live the rest of his life behind bars. However, President Donald Trump pardoned him after he has won the presidency, much to the dismay of Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin and the migrant population of the United States.

Robert Ivy, the Chief Executive Officer and EVP of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), is being honored with the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award, which is being given to him by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. The award is handed out to Mississippi-based art patrons or artists, but Ivy is the first architect to ever receive the award. Walter Anderson, Leontyne Price, Eudora Welty, and Morgan Freeman are all people who have won the award in the past, and it is the entire body of work these people did over the course of their life that made them stand out as people who deserved the honor.

Nancy LaForge, the President of the MIAL, commented that Robert Ivy has made architecture more accessible to the general public and went on further to list off what makes him so special. Part of this includes him being an author, writer, and commentator on the world of architecture. Penelope has taken a keen interest in the healthcare of Puerto Ricans in light of the hurricane that has ravaged the island. She was invited to the White House as part of a women’s panel discussion with seven other women to speak with President Donald Trump. Penelope did not hold back while talking to the President. She pointed out that if the Medicare Advantage program fails in Puerto Rico, many Puerto Ricans will be forced to move to the States, where the cost of their health care could but up to four times higher than what they would be in Puerto Rico. She pointed out that in order to avoid a complete health care crisis, the President needs to fund Medicare Advantage in Puerto Rico.

Penelope is an excellent leader. She is pushing to ensure that everyone has access to affordable health care options. She is also championing the cause of Puerto Ricans who are still mired in the disaster that was left last year. Her admirable leadership qualities will undoubtedly continue to have a positive impact in InnovaCare Health and on health care issues in storm-ravaged Puerto Rico.

Will 2018 be a Solid Year for Gold and Silver?

John Rothans holds a critical job at U.S. Reserve. The Austin, TX-based distributor of gold and other precious metals has served clients all over the United States. The coins on display at U.S. Money Reserve’s full-service e-commerce site capture attention.

The site could capture the attention of people new to precious metals. These “newbies” may be wondering about gold and silver’s dual outlook for 2018. Rothans, the Chief Numismatist for U.S. Money Reserve recently looked at what forecasters are saying.

In an interview, Rothans noted that people should look at 2017 when concerned about 2018’s direction. Rothans points out that gold performed in a stable and steady manner during 2017.

That turned out to be quite the surprise to many in the precious metals world. 2017 was a year marked by economic anxiety derived from the North Korea missile crisis, the arrival of Bitcoin on the scene, and more. Gold held its own though. So, some are bullish about 2018.

A review of what gold analysts some predict for 2018 reveal Goldman Sachs’ low of $1,200 to ABN AMRO, Sharps Pixley, and Macquarie suggesting highs of $1,400 per ounce. Do these predictions hold any weight? Predictions and speculations reflect opinions.

The sources for these opinions are credible financial institutions, but things can and do change in the global markets without warning. Still, the opinions and predictions from analysts deliver value for those looking to educate themselves about the market.

And what about silver?

In comparison, silver experienced a volatile 2017. A significant crash occurred at one point during the year. Analysts seem to believe, however, that 2018 may be a “steady” year for silver. Some do predict the price rising to $19 per ounce. Read more: US Money Reserve | Twitter and US Money Reserve | Facebook

Various other factors may contribute to the demand for silver and gold in 2018. An increase in consumer preferences for silver jewelry, for example, might drive up the price of silver.

And then there are industries that rely on functional purposes for silver. The solar energy industry reflects one area where businesses maintain an industrial use for the metal.

Gold prices might be affected by a potentially weak dollar. If the value of the dollar declines, the price of gold usually increases. Gold mining could be reduced in 2018, an event that impacts demand and price.

To see if predictions turn into realities requires a “wait and see” approach. No one can truly determine what’s in store for gold and silver in 2018 until the year runs its course.

The Chainsmokers Discuss “Closer”, Beginnings and the Nature of Change

In the immediate aftermath of the release of their hit track “Closer”, featuring New Jersey pop singer Halsey, Alex Pall of the Chainsmokers, along with his co-artist Andrew Taggart, sat down with Interview Magazine for a wide-ranging conversation that covered the desire for artistic recognition, the group’s beginnings, the role of social media in the promotion of their music, and how the new track denoted a change in formula for the duo.

The Chainsmokers formed in 2012 and spawned their first hit two years later with the Internet darling “#Selfie”. Their first full-length project was the EP Bouquet, which featured top-ten hit “Roses” (featuring Rozes – of course), while their first top-five single, “Don’t Let Me Down” featuring singer Daya, features in their follow-up EP Collage.

In the interview, Pall discussed meeting Taggart as an up-and-coming New York DJ after deciding to pursue music full-time. “I was working with our same manager now at that time, and then he introduced me to Drew. So we met and just immediately started working,” Pall said. He would go on to point out that beyond their shared taste in music, their common drive to push artistic boundaries and self discover was critical to the success of the duo.

Pall also discussed how social media has unveiled to the duo the diversity in age and nationality of their fan base, using his own mother – a big fan of “Roses” – as an example. “We make music for ourselves,” Pall said, “and it’s really exciting that everyone else is enjoying it enough that they find some emotional connection to it.”

Finally, the DJ touched on touring, and how the changing nature of their singles meant their live shows would organically change, declaring, “it’s all about being on the forefront of pushing new boundaries and giving people new experiences.”
